ELISABETH FAILLE

Elisabeth Faille sold alcoholic beverages “by the pint and upwards” at the corner of Peace and Casa Calvo Streets (now Kerlerec and Royal in the Faubourg Marigny ) in 1828. In addition to paying an annual license tax of $60 for the business, she also had to take out a security bond to guarantee compliance with city ordinances governing coffee houses, taverns, and similar establishments. The law also stated that vendors of alcohol by the pint could not sell drinks in smaller quantities; thus, the Faille establishment may have been more a package liquor store than an actual tavern. We have been unable to find anything more about Elizabeth Faille either before or after 1828. Perhaps she was just passing through?
