FIVE PROPERTY OWNERS IN 1837

In 1837, the properties shown here in the two squares bounded by Chartres, Canal, Bourbon, and Customhouse (now Iberville) Streets were owned by thirty individuals, five of whom were women. Their total value was $73,000. Two additional properties belonged to the succession of Slocomb, valued at $60,000. Samuel B. Slocomb had died in 1834, leaving his estate valued at between $250-$300,000 to his wife, Cora, and their three daughters.
