Chapel at Old Ursulines Convent This chapel was located at the second Ursuline Convent. In the 1820s, the Ursuline nuns moved from their original quarters in the Vieux Carré to a new home on the Mississippi River in the lower part of the city. The chapel, along with the rest of the convent, was demolished to make way for levee construction (and later the Industrial Canal), probably not too long after Allison photographed it. The Ursulines moved to their present property at South Claiborne Avenue and State Street in 1912. Images of the City \| Images of the Family
