This photograph, taken in late 1963 or early 1964, shows the Interstate 10 "high-rise" bridge under construction over the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal (better know as the Industrial Canal). The aerial photograph was taken from the eastern side of the Canal looking towards the Gentilly neighborhood. Immediately across the Canal is the truly gigantic Gentilly branch of Schwegmann Bros. Giant Supermarkets. Just beyond Schwegmann's is the Gentilly Woods Shopping Center and its neighbor, the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Still farther away are acre after acre of Gentilly residences and, the white steepled structure at upper right, the recently-opened St. Frances Cabrini Church.
