Images of the Month Gallery
June 1998

The eleven images presented here were selected from the Louisiana Division's "Contact Print Collection." Mystery shrouds the origins of the prints in that collection. An earlier curator of the Division's photograph collection speculated that they may be part of the Cornelius Durkee Collection, but offered no evidence to support that theory. The negatives from which the prints were made are not part of the Division's collection.

The "Contact Print Collection" includes two distinct components: photographs of steamboats (and other river scenes) and photographs of buildings in and around New Orleans during the years 1912-1914. All of the images selected for this Gallery are from the second category. Click on each of the thumbnails below for a larger version of the image accompanied by a brief description of the scene depicted. Check back next month for another selection from the "Contact Print Collection."
