Health Rules - Vaccination 4 IV 173 2/12/1802 Governor: Salcedo; Royal Ensign: De La Ronde – At this time the Attorney General presented a memorandum in which certain families were requesting that vaccination be permitted. The Commissioners resolved to forward this representation to the Governor so that he may order inspection by the physicians; the physicians being requested to state (in a meeting to be held before the Governor) if they believe contagion inevitable.
Health Rules - Vaccination 4 IV 175 2/19/1802 Governor: Salcedo; Royal Ensign: De La Ronde – At this time the Secretary presented a resolution issued by the Governor at the meeting attended by the physicians, in which he states that the physicians cannot vaccinate without his permission, which he would grant when the number of patients increased. As a matter of precaution, Dr. Leduc should be provided with enough vaccine virus to supply other physicians, that in Natchez there is a vaccine virus (the new method of inoculation) less painful than the one used up to now.
Health Rules - Vaccination 4 IV 183 3/5/1802 Governor: Salcedo; Royal Ensign: De La Ronde – Two Commissioners report to the Cabildo that they visited, in company with the physician of the Royal Hospital, a patient located outside the Gate of St. John whom the physician Don Luis Giolelina had sent there. On examination it was found that the patient had not been vaccinated. The Governor ordered the arrest and imprisonment of Giovelina for failure to vaccinate as ordered.
Health Rules - Vaccination 4 IV 186 3/5/1802 Governor: Salcedo; Royal Ensign: De La Ronde - The Commissioners discuss the report that Don Santiago Livaudais believes he has found the vaccine virus in some cows with which he vaccinated some slaves. He wishes to vaccinate others with the virus of those successfully vaccinated to ascertain if this is the true vaccine. The Commissioners resolved to permit him to proceed with the experiment.
Health Rules - Vaccination 4 IV 187 3/8/1802 Governor: Salcedo; Royal Ensign: De La Ronde – The Cabildo is called into extraordinary session by the Governor to decide whether or not to permit vaccination. The Commissioners agreed to await the outcome of the experiments by Don Santiago Livaudais. They also agreed on a price to be charged, and rules governing the care of the victims. A house was rented from Don Bernardo Marigny for this purpose.
Health Rules - Vaccination 4 IV 194 3/22/1802 Governor: Salcedo; Royal Ensign: De La Ronde – The Cabildo is again called into extraordinary session to discuss whether or not the sickness is small pox and whether or not to vaccinate. They resolved to permit vaccination.
