Robinson Atlas

Robinson, Elisha & R.H. Pidgeon, comp. Atlas of the city of New Orleans, Louisiana : based upon surveys furnished by John F. Braun. New York : E. Robinson, 1883.
Dated 1883, but based on surveys made by John F. Braun, the City Surveyor, over a period of several years, possibly as early as the late 1870's, this one volume work contains 30 color-coded scale drawings of existing structures throughout the city. Also shown are street addresses, names of business establishments and public institutions, and names of the owners of selected residences in the uptown part of New Orleans. The Robinson Atlas is similar (though less detailed) than the Sanborn Maps, and predates the earliest set of Sanborns by several years.

The Louisiana Division's collection includes several copies of the atlas (although these original volumes have been retired from use), as well as microfilm and microfiche copies.
