George H.W. Bush, then U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, was the featured speaker on the third day of Tulane's "Direction '72" lecture series. Anti-Vietnam war protestors greeted his appearance at McAllister Auditorium on campus. The Times-Picayune reported, "As he was being introduced on stage, a handful of the 125 to 200 demonstrators hurled paper airplanes at Bush. He remained unperturbed."
