TO THE MOST ILLUSTRIOUS CABILDO

Bernardo, negro carpenter of this City, before your Lordships respectfully states: that by the itemized bill duly attached, it is evident that he has repaired, during the whole year from January lst. to date, twelve step-ladders in the service of the Lighting Department, having placed a number of crossboards to replace the useless ones, all this amounting to the sum of 13 pesos 4 1/2 reales, which work he has done with the knowledge and under the direction of the Commissioner and City Treasurer Don Juan de Castanedo, commissioned by your Lordships for this purpose, this work having been approved by him as is evidenced by his certificate at the foot of said bill, therefore, he requests your Lordships to please order that he be paid the aforementioned sum, out of the special funds of the Lighting Department, for which he thanks your Lordships. - New Orleans, December 15th., 1797.

I certify and give faith that in the session of the Cabildo held this day, it was resolved to instruct the City Treasurer to pay to the negro Bernard the sum of 13 pesos 4 1/2 reales, out of the special funds of the Lighting Department, value of the preceding bill. - New Orleans, December 15th., 1797.

Bernardo, negro carpenter, received from the Commissioner and City Treasurer, Don Juan de Castanedo, Thirteen pesos, four and one half reales, for the repairing of the step-ladders for the use of the Lighting Department, as it is evidenced by the attached bill and preceding petition which amount was ordered paid to me by resolution of the Cabildo held this day. - New Orleans, December 15th., 1797.

Itemized bill of the carpentry works which I, Bernardo, negro carpenter, have made for account of the Lighting Department of this city from January 1st. of the current year until this date, with the knowledge of and under the direction of Don Juan de Castanedo, Commissioner and City Treasurer, to-wit:

For repairing 3 step-ladders for the use of the Lighting Department of this City, during the month of January, two pesos and three reales

For the complete repair of 3 step-ladders for the use of the Lighting Department of this City, during the month of June, three pesos six reales

For repairing 2 step-ladders, during the month of September, one peso three and one half reales

For repairing 4 step-ladders, during the month of October, three pesos four reales

For repairing 2 step-ladders, during the early part of the current month, two pesos four reales

The total amount of this Itemized Bill is thirteen pesos four and one half reales. (error exempted) - New Orleans, December 15th., 1797.
