This page from the Senate Journal documents day one of that body's session in the state of Louisiana's first legislative session. It also shows the key role that New Orleans played in the new government--that of its capital. Note that while the County of Orleans sent three members to the upper chamber of the legislature, not all of them represented what was then the city of New Orleans since the county included such outlying areas as present-day Gentilly, Algiers, and Jefferson Parish.
