On November 29, 1952 Charles F. Buck, Jr. passed away, leaving a vacancy on the Public Library Board, on which he had served as chairman since 1935. Mayor Chep Morrison's advisers proposed a number of prominent New Orleans men as potential successors to Mr. Buck; to their list Mayor added the names of two women as alternative choices. Rosa Keller was one of the two. It did not take Morrison long to decide on Mrs. Keller as his nominee for the Library Board vacancy and the Commission Council concurred at its January 16, 1953 meeting.
