ROSA DORSEY REYNOIR

Rosa Dorsey Reynoir, a milliner, operated a store in the Vieux Carré from 1876 until her retirement in 1893. She had a store on Magazine near Josephine for several years previously. Her husband Arthur left his earlier occupation as a clerk to go into business with Rosa. Together, they made regular visits to New York City to replenish their inventory with the latest fashions. Madame Reynoir died in 1917 at her home in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Richardson’s mother-in-law was Cora Ann Slocomb, who owned the building that housed Crescent Hall, Janet Merriam’s elegant billiard parlor. The Reynoir store building still stands in the 100 block of Chartres.
