William Kenner (1774-1824) [1st image] and Julien Poydras (1746-1824) [2nd image] were two of the members of the Legislative Council of the Territory of Orleans, the body that adopted the city’s first charter in 1805. Kenner was a prominent merchant and planter. Poydras was also a planter and merchant, but is probably best remembered as an early New Orleans philanthropist.
